Meet our Board of Directors

President:  Denise Vallee (2005-2011)

Denise has been employed by the Town of Gorham since 1996, initially as a Fiscal and Administrative Assistant, and then in the position of Finance Director in 2000.  She currently holds the position of Director of Finance and Administration.  She is active in the community, serving on the Family Resource Center Board of Directors, as the Director of the Miss Berlin-Gorham Scholarship Program, Inc., and as a member of the Community Theater Project Committee and the Gorham Recreation Commission.  Denise completed the 2005 North Country Leadership Program.  She received the North Country Community Service Award from the NH Charitable Foundation in 2006.  Denise has been a Gorham resident since 1972 and values the sense of community and quality of life found north of the notches.  She is married to Dennis and has two daughters, Denielle and Denah who reside in NY and Maine.

 

Vice-President:  Rev. Fran Gardner-Smith (2009-2011)

Fran serves as the rector at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Berlin and as the Diocesan Missioner for North Country ministry, for the Episcopal Diocese of NH.  Fran holds an AB cum laude in religion and english from Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley, MA; a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mount Holyoke College; and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary.  Prior to ordination, Fran spent many years in Greenfield, MA managing an independent bookstore.  Before moving to the North Country, Fran lived and worked in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where she worked for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan supporting and encouraging ministry in a number of very small churches.  Outside of work, Fran enjoys running, hiking, and all manner of outdoor activities, knitting and reading.  Fran agreed to serve on the FRC board in order to support the good work that the FRC is doing to improve the lives of those living in the North Country.

Treasurer:  Jean Palm Malick (2008-2011)

Jean grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and went to college at the University of Northern Colorado.  She retired from the Gorham school system in 2005 where she taught mathematics since 1968.  She is presently the chair of the trustees of the Randolph Public Library and was part of the committee who oversaw the fundraising and building of the new library in Randolph.  She is currently serving on the board of the Randolph Foundation, is a member of the Friends of the Randolph Public Library and a volunteer in the VITA program at the FRC.  Jean enjoys hiking, gardening, tennis, quilting and bridge.

 

Secretary:  Betsy Hess (2006-2011)

Betsy is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Berlin.  She has served on many non-profit boards, including positions at the local, diocesan and national levels for the Episcopal Church, the Gorham Community Learning Center, and the Friends of the Randolph Liabrary.   Betsy is in her second term on the Board of the Family Resource Center.

Kim Hoyt (2010-2011)

Kimberly Hoyt has been working with Coös County youth for the past four years, as the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator for Youth Alternatives, a Tri-County Community Action Program. She is also the Berlin/Gorham area's Community Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator for the North Country Health Consortium. She also supports north country arts having been in two Theatre North musical productions, as well as, the North Country Community Chorus. Kim has enjoyed being a resident of Gorham for the past several years and joined the Family Resource Center's Board of Directors with the hope of taking a more active role to affect positive change in the community she calls home. She enjoys music, the ocean
and spending time with friends and family.

Martha Laflamme (2006-2011)

Martha joined the FRC board because she values the work of non-profits and wanted to step outside of her comfort zone to offer her time and energy to an organization that accomplishes so much.  She has served on numerous boards and commissions since moving to the North Country in 1980.  Martha currently is a member of the Androscoggin Valley Board of Directors and serves as Vice Chair of the Berlin Board of Education.  She has a Masters degree in Education from Plymouth State.  Martha is Vice President of Student and Community Affairs at White Mountains Community College, a position she has held since 2002.  She has worked at the college since 1984.  She and her husband reside in Berlin and are the parents of two adult daughters.

Pamela Laflamme  (2007-2011)

Pam is the City Planner for the City of Berlin.  She has worked for the City since 2000.  Pam earned her BS in Community and Regional Planning from Plymouth State University in 1997.  She serves on several boards and committees in the Androscoggin Valley, including the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for the Northern NH Correctional Facility, Berlin Main Street Program and the FRC.  She is a Leadership NH alumnus, Class of 2004 and was recognized as one of the Union Leader’s Forty under 40 in 2004.  Pam was selected by the Fannie Mae Foundation for a Fellowship at the Kennedy School of Government for State and Local Oficials working in government.  She most recently was recognized by Business NH Magazine as one of the 25 Leaders for the Future.  She lives in Gorham, NH with her husband Paul and children, Matthew and Katherine.

 

Patti Stolte (2009-2011)

Patti is the Director of Elder Services at Tri-County Community Action Programs.  She oversees programs such as Senior Meals and Meals-on-Wheels, ServiceLink Resource Center, Alzheimer’s Health Care Services and Adult Day Programs for Coos County.  She came to the area in 1997 to join the Berlin Main Street Program.  Prior to living in northern New Hampshire, Patti lived in Boston, working in advertising and marketing for 15 years.
Patti has served on local community boards such as the Family Resource Center, the Chamber of Commerce and Androscoggin Valley Home Care.  She also serves on statewide groups including the NH Coalition on Aging Services, State Conference on Aging, NH ServiceLink Advisory Board and the Area Committee on Aging.

Mary White (2010-2011)

Mary White graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development from the University of Maine at Orono in 1986. After moving to Gorham, New Hampshire she accepted a position as the Family Services Coordinator for the Berlin Head Start program. She left this position to
be a stay at home mother to her two children. Ms. White subsequently obtained a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, New Hampshire. Ms. White served for nearly six years as a Family Counselor with Family Strength. During her time at Family Strength, she became a certified trainer and administrator for the GAIN (Global Appraisal of Individual Needs), which is a clinical tool for substance abuse identification and treatment. Ms. White became a Certified Guardian ad Litem in 2005, and recently obtained her certification as a Family Mediator. Ms. White resides in Gorham, New Hampshire with her husband, Adam White. During her spare time, she enjoys doing activities with her family, gardening, cooking, spending time at the ocean, and renovating her late nineteenth century home.
Mary and Adam have a passion for riding their motorcycle throughout the United States and Canada, and are members of the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club – New Hampshire Chapter 7.
